Sri Lankan Areca Nut     
- In practically, all South Asian countries, as well as many Southeast Asian and Oceanic countries, the Areca catechu L. palm's fruit, generally known as areca nut, is mostly used for chewing with betel leaf. Bunches of nuts are picked at various stages of maturation depending on how they will be used. In Sri Lanka, matured nuts are often gathered and exported fresh or dried.

- It has a unique astringent and slightly bitter flavor. Chemical constituents in areca nut are tannin, garlic acid and a fixed oil gum, a little terpineol, lignin, various saline substances and three main alkaloids namely Arecoline, Arecain and Guacine which have vasoconstriction properties.
